The UK’s gambling regulatory landscape is welcoming a significant change!

Nick Rust, the former CEO of the British Horseracing Authority, steps into a pivotal role as the chair of the British Gambling Commission’s newly established Industry Forum.

This appointment comes at a crucial time, aiming to bridge gaps in understanding and cooperation between regulators and operators in the gambling sector.

Keep an eye on how this strategic move will shape the future of gambling regulation and stakeholder collaboration in the UK.

The UK Gambling Commission has announced the appointment of Nick Rust OBE as the chairperson of its newly formed Industry Forum. This decision marks a significant step in the Commission’s efforts to enhance its understanding of and engagement with operators’ perspectives in the gambling sector.

Nick Rust, who notably led the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) as CEO for six years until 2020, brings a wealth of experience to this role. His current positions include chairing the Starting Price Regulatory Commission, serving as a non-executive director at Redcar Racecourse, being a founding partner of GVS EQ, and a trustee of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

While the Gambling Commission initially sought a chair for a three-month term, Rust’s tenure has been set for two years, reflecting his strong capability in stakeholder management and dispute resolution. His appointment is particularly timely, given the ongoing tensions between the regulator and the horseracing sector, especially regarding proposed financial risk checks for online gambling.

Marcus Boyle, chair of the Gambling Commission, expressed his enthusiasm for Rust’s appointment: “I am delighted that Nick has been appointed as the inaugural Chair of the Commission’s Industry Forum. Nick’s extensive knowledge of the gambling sector makes him a valuable asset, and I am confident he will work with us to create a productive and insightful Industry Forum.”

Nick Rust’s leadership is expected to foster constructive dialogue and solutions within the gambling industry, aligning regulatory objectives with industry insights and concerns.
