The Danish Gambling Committee will prioritize research on responsible gambling and problem gambling thanks to a funding of $1.8 million.

In Denmark, a fresh initiative is anticipated to spearhead research on gambling addiction and create a more secure market for customers. The newly formed Danish Gambling Committee will lead the research and collaborate with top-notch experts and researchers in the field. The committee will concentrate on the vertical to achieve its goals.

The Danish Gambling Committee has received a crucial funding of DKK 12 million ($1.8 million) for its upcoming research over the next three years. Major players in the regulated gambling market in Denmark, including Danske Spil, Mr Green, Betsson Group, Kindred Group, and Spilnu.dk, have made donations to support the initiative. It’s worth noting that all of these operators currently possess a license from the Danish gambling authority, demonstrating their dedication to responsible gambling.

Despite being one of the most strictly regulated gambling markets in the world, the Danish gambling industry has experienced substantial growth in the past decade, fueled by online gambling.

Although the gambling sector in Denmark has been growing, research on responsible gambling and problem gambling has not kept up with the pace. This is precisely where the Danish Gambling Committee’s efforts will be focused. The committee will prioritize four key areas, including:

  • treatment of problem gambling
  • prevention of gambling harm among vulnerable groups such as young people and children
  • prevention of gambling harm within the online sphere
  • gathering valuable knowledge about problem gambling.

Preventing problem gambling is reliant on research

According to Kate Jacquerot, the legal director for responsible gambling at Danske Spil, the company is thrilled to support the creation of a secure and safe gambling market in Denmark. She further stated that Danske Spil is delighted to support the Danish Gambling Committee and believes that new independent research will play a crucial role in generating knowledge about preventing and taking care of gamblers displaying signs of addiction.

“It is absolutely crucial for the Kindred Group that investment is made in increased research into the prevention and treatment of gambling addiction.“ declaraed Kim Olesen, general manager for Denmark and Italy at Kindred Group.

Kim Olesen, the general manager for Denmark and Italy at Kindred Group, emphasized that it is of utmost importance for the company to invest in research that can prevent and treat problem gambling and addiction. The initiative aligns with Kindred’s goal to achieve zero revenue from problem gambling, and the general manager clarified that the company does not want to profit from individuals who have an unhealthy relationship with gambling. Lastly, Olesen said that the Danish Gambling Committee’s efforts will help develop novel methods for treating gambling addiction and preventing problem gambling.
