British Gambling Commission Welcomes Seven New Commissioners

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer announces the inclusion of seven esteemed professionals to the British Gambling Commission, bolstering its commitment to fair and secure gambling.

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has recently endorsed the induction of seven independent commissioners to the British Gambling Commission. These professionals come with distinct experiences and expertise, positioning the commission to further its mission. Charles Counsell, Helen Dodds, Sheree Howard, and Claudia Mortimore will grace the commission for five years. Concurrently, Lloydette Bai-Marrow, Helen Philips, and David Rossington are set for a four-year tenure.

Joining the panel of four pre-existing commissioners, they will function under the guidance of the Commission Chair, Marcus Boyle. Each commissioner is entitled to an annual remuneration of £14,160.

  • Lloydette Bai-Marrow is a stalwart against corruption and a seasoned economic crime attorney. Her credentials include founding Parametric Global Consulting, chairing Spotlight on Corruption, and co-founding the Black Women in Leadership Network (BWIL).
  • Charles Counsell led The Pensions Regulator from 2019 to 2023. Helen Dodds is globally recognized for her legal acumen, while Sheree Howard is the executive director of risk and compliance oversight at the Financial Conduct Authority. Claudia Mortimore carries a decade’s experience in enforcement at the Financial Reporting Council. Helen Phillips and David Rossington have enriched backgrounds with ties to the NHS Professionals, Chartered Insurance Institute, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, respectively.

The British Gambling Commission asserts that their independent commissioners are vital cogs in its machinery, infusing diversified experience to safeguard and uphold gambling integrity.

In a recent endeavor, Andrew Rhodes, the commission’s chief executive, accentuated the significance of global collaboration at the International Association of Gambling Regulators (IAGR) Conference in Botswana. He championed a cohesive approach between regulators and operators to counter illicit gambling and stressed the need to proactively ensure customer protection.
