Spelinspektionen opened the application process on March 1.

The new licences for suppliers become mandatory from July 1.

Following the first set of approvals a week prior, the Swedish gaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, has issued nine additional supplier licenses. The new licensing regime for iGaming suppliers will become effective on July 1.

To meet the July 1 deadline, Spelinspektionen had announced earlier this year that it would start accepting license applications in advance. The application process began on March 1.

The newly approved batch of five-year licenses comprises of both well-known and lesser-known providers. The list of approved suppliers includes Arland Gesellschaft Fur Informationstechnologie Mbh, Everymatrix Software, Hacksaw, and its subsidiaries Hacksaw Operations and Hacksaw Studios. Additionally, games providers Yggdrasil, Relax Gaming, and Thunderkick have been granted licenses, with the latter obtaining approval for both its Swedish and Malta branches.

According to Spelinspektionen, it has received a total of 60 applications for the new supplier licenses, which require payment of an SEK120,000 application fee. The regulator expects that the new licensing regime will help channel consumers to the regulated sector by prohibiting licensed suppliers from providing services to unlicensed operators.

While the industry generally supports the new licensing regime, Gustaf Hoffstedt, secretary-general of Swedish trade association Branscheförenigen för Onlinespel (BOS), has expressed doubts regarding its effectiveness in blocking larger outflows from the Swedish licensing system.
