PAGCOR cautions against illicit online gambling activities

PAGCOR has issued a warning in light of reports indicating the widespread proliferation of illegal online betting.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has issued a public advisory cautioning against illegal gambling. In a statement, PAGCOR emphasized that engaging in unauthorized gambling is not only a criminal offense but also puts individuals at risk of falling prey to unscrupulous groups.

The regulatory body reiterated its unwavering commitment to responsible licensed gaming practices. This warning follows recent suggestions made by Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, Chairman of the Philippine Senate’s Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee, proposing the operation of offshore gaming operators (POGOs) in designated controlled areas.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, has recommended the urgent prohibition of offshore gaming operators (POGOs) due to alarming incidents of kidnappings, murder, coercion, illegal detentions, and illegal possession of firearms associated with their operations.

In March, PAGCOR terminated the contract of a third-party auditor that was tasked with auditing offshore gaming operators (POGOs). The service provider was found to have defaulted on its obligations and engaged in unlawful acts, leading to the termination of their contract by PAGCOR.
