German Court Upholds GGL’s Fine Against Red Rhino

Germany’s gambling watchdog, GGL, remains victorious as Red Rhino fails to win its appeal against a €50,000 fine. The penalty was imposed last month for the operator’s involvement in delivering online gambling services without an appropriate German license.

Though Red Rhino had dismantled its German-targeted website, Platincasino.de, it continued to cater to German customers through Platincasino.com. This act was deemed illicit since the Malta-based firm lacked the necessary German online gambling authorization. In its vigilance, the GGL also sanctioned the payment provider associated with Red Rhino.

In a following legal challenge, Red Rhino questioned the GGL’s authority to hinder its transactions with the undisclosed payment provider. Nevertheless, the Higher Administrative Court of Sachsen-Anhalt confirmed that Red Rhino was not entitled to such protection, lacking a German license. It upheld the GGL’s prerogative to obstruct payment facilities in instances of unauthorized gambling.

To safeguard its operations with licensed entities, the court decided not to disclose the payment provider’s identity.
