Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), a leader in iGaming technology, has joined forces with prominent sports betting operator Betway to facilitate a landmark launch in Portugal. This partnership positions Betway at the forefront of Portugal’s online betting scene, supported by GiG’s advanced igaming platform and sportsbook.
A Strategic Collaboration for Market Expansion
The collaboration between GiG and Betway, first announced in April 2022, involves GiG providing its robust igaming platform and sportsbook to facilitate Betway’s entry into the Portuguese market. Betway, having secured sports betting and igaming licenses in February 2020, is set to redefine the online betting experience in Portugal.
Betway: Elevating Portugal’s Sports Betting Landscape
Betway CEO Anthony Werkman expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its role in Betway’s ambitious growth strategy for Portugal in 2024. The GiG platform will not only enhance the sports betting experience for existing Betway customers but also attract new audiences, fostering a synergistic relationship between the two companies.
GiG’s Continued Leadership in B2B Sports Betting
Betway is the second B2B partner to launch with GiG in Portugal, following GoldenPark, which also leveraged GiG’s player account manager and sportsbook last year. This expansion cements GiG’s position as a go-to provider for top-tier sports betting solutions in Europe.
GiG’s New Leadership and Strategic Direction
Under the new leadership of former SBTech and DraftKings executives, Richard Carter and Andrew Cochrane, GiG embarks on a restructured journey. The company, after initiating a strategic review in February 2023, decided to split its business into two distinct arms: the GiG Media affiliate and the Platform & Sportsbook divisions, focusing on different aspects of the gaming and betting industry.

Cochrane, GiG’s Chief Business Officer, emphasized the significance of the Portugal launch, affirming GiG’s commitment to investing in its products and technology. This approach aims to secure further tier-one client victories and enhance existing clients’ offerings with innovative features.
GiG’s Recent Acquisitions Bolstering Market Position
The Portugal launch coincides with GiG’s recent acquisition of the affiliate group KaFe Rocks, a move that strengthens GiG Media’s presence, especially in North America. Following the acquisition of AskGamblers, this latest addition to the GiG family accelerates the diversification of its business and cements its position in the online casino affiliation space.
