Mr Green has launched its services in Germany

888 Holdings has announced the launch of its online gambling brand, Mr Green, on its own technology platform in Germany, following the acquisition of a license from Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), the country’s new gambling regulator, earlier this year.

Following the acquisition of William Hill’s European operations in 2021, 888 Holdings has launched its Mr Green online gambling brand in Germany. The London-listed company received a license from the German regulator, Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), earlier this year.

This launch marks the first time Mr Green is operating on 888’s own technology platform. However, the acquisition led to a record fine from the British Gambling Commission this week for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings dating back to 2020 and 2021.

Amit Berkovich, 888’s Vice President, Head of Poker, and Managing Director for Rest of World, commented that Mr Green would be the group’s spearhead brand in Germany, alongside its 888 brands.

“We’ve been live since late March, thanks to the existing 888 platform in Germany and the powerful collaboration of all teams across the business who have enabled a totally new set-up in record time. We are excited to introduce thousands more players in the market to our enhanced offer and look forward to bringing other Mr Green markets onto our single technology platform in the coming months.”

The Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), Germany’s new gambling regulator, has urged gambling operators in the country to enhance their cooperation to develop the nascent market. Although the regulator has taken over the federal gaming regulation since January and has appreciated the cooperation from operators so far, it believes that more effort is needed.

Ronald Benter, CEO of GGL, suggested that licensees can aid the regulator in combating illegal gambling in a session held at the Research Centre for Gaming at the University of Hohenheim.

“We are well on the way to creating an attractive legal market. The majority of permit applications have been approved. Nevertheless, we still see insufficient cooperation on the part of online gambling providers.”
