BetMakers Expands GTX Platform with Protocol Zone Acquisition
BetMakers has taken a major step in enhancing its wagering technology by acquiring the intellectual property of Indian-based wagering software developer Protocol Zone. The A$1.3 million (€790,000) deal, finalized on February 6, includes a mix of cash and stock and marks a key milestone in BetMakers’ ongoing transformation strategy.
This acquisition will integrate Protocol Zone’s advanced tote betting software, proprietary trading tools, and API data feeds into BetMakers’ upcoming GTX platform. GTX is positioned as the next evolution of BetMakers’ tote wagering infrastructure, designed to improve performance while reducing cloud and infrastructure costs across the US and global markets.
Karl Begg, VP of technology at BetMakers’ subsidiary Global Tote, emphasized the value of the acquisition, stating:
“We have been working with the team at Protocol Zone for 18 months now and have found them to be extremely efficient with a great domain knowledge across wagering and horse racing.”
He further highlighted the significance of the new GTX platform, adding:
“We believe that the new offering will be a game changer across our tote business and we are confident it will be well received by the broader market and our existing customer base once launched.”
GTX Platform to Integrate iGaming & Sports Betting
A key aspect of the GTX upgrade is its modern, module-based architecture. This will allow BetMakers to expand beyond traditional tote wagering, integrating iGaming, Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), and sports betting functionalities.
GTX will also be connected with BetMakers’ fixed odds managed trading service and its Racelab ProFORM betting insights platform. BetMakers acquired the Racelab assets in April 2024 for A$1.6 million to strengthen its racing product with advanced race form, previews, and statistical analytics.
Protocol Zone’s Leadership to Drive Indian Expansion
As part of the acquisition, Protocol Zone’s managing director, Kartik Modi, will join BetMakers as its country manager for India. In this role, he will oversee BetMakers’ operations in India and explore expansion opportunities across the broader Asian market.
Protocol Zone CEO, Komal Modi, shared his thoughts on the acquisition:
“This partnership represents more than just a business transaction. It’s a testament to the innovation, dedication, and expertise our team has demonstrated in developing cutting-edge wagering technology over many years.”
This move aligns with BetMakers’ broader transformation strategy, which has already included cost-cutting measures and restructuring initiatives. In its latest quarterly report, BetMakers reported a 68.7% reduction in EBITDA loss, bringing it down to A$348,000.
BetMakers’ acquisition of Protocol Zone’s wagering software IP is a significant step in its efforts to enhance and expand the GTX platform. By incorporating advanced tote betting solutions, iGaming, and proprietary trading tools, BetMakers is positioning itself as a leader in the global wagering technology market.
With a focus on innovation and international expansion—particularly in India and Asia—BetMakers is set to redefine how the racing and betting industry evolves. As GTX rolls out, all eyes will be on how this next-generation platform transforms the tote betting landscape.
