Jackpot50 granted authorization to provide online gambling services in Germany
The recently established federal gambling regulator, Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), has officially added Jackpot50 to its whitelist for online gambling. This means that Jackpot50 has been granted approval to operate its online gambling platform, Jackpot50.de, in compliance with the regulatory requirements set forth by the GGL.
Currently, there are only 33 active POGO license holders. Jackpot50 has been included in the online gambling whitelist by the GGL.
According to the recent estimates provided by the GGL, approximately 95% of online bets placed in Germany in 2022 were made through whitelisted operators. These findings challenge the claims made by the industry association Deutsche Sportwettenverband (DSWV) that the illegal black market for gambling is growing due to overly stringent regulations in the legal gambling market.
In addition to Jackpot50, another notable approval by the GGL is the inclusion of London-listed 888’s online gambling brand, Mr Green, in the German market. This marks the first time that Mr Green is operating on 888’s own technology platform in Germany, following its launch in the country.
The newly appointed gambling regulator in Germany is seeking increased cooperation from operators
The GGL has emphasized the importance of increased cooperation from gambling operators in Germany to enhance the country’s developing gambling market. Since taking full control of federal gaming regulation in January, the regulator has acknowledged the positive collaboration from operators, but has also urged for further efforts to be made. The GGL has emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation between regulators and operators to ensure a successful and compliant gambling market in Germany.
During a session at the Research Centre for Gaming at the University of Hohenheim, GGL CEO Ronald Benter highlighted that licensees could play a vital role in assisting the regulator in combating illegal gambling. By actively cooperating with the regulator, licensees can contribute to identifying and addressing illegal gambling activities, thereby promoting a safer and more transparent gambling environment in Germany. Benter emphasized the significance of a collaborative approach between the regulator and licensees in effectively tackling illegal gambling practices.
“We are well on the way to creating an attractive legal market. The majority of permit applications have been approved. Nevertheless, we still see insufficient cooperation on the part of online gambling providers.”
