Stay tuned as North Carolina gears up for a potential March Madness launch, revolutionizing sports betting in the state.
Following Governor Roy Cooper’s historic signing of sports betting into law in June 2023, North Carolina is poised to enter a new era. The state’s eagerly anticipated mobile sports betting market might kick off just in time for March Madness.
As of now, seven leading mobile sports betting companies have stepped forward, applying for a license to operate in North Carolina. These applications were submitted by the December 27 deadline, positioning these initial applicants for early market access.
The illustrious list of applicants vying for mobile licenses includes industry giants like bet365, BetMGM, and DraftKings. Also in the race are ESPN BET, Fanatics Sportsbook, FanDuel, and the emerging contender, Underdog. The North Carolina Lottery Commission, responsible for overseeing this new venture, has a 60-day window to conduct thorough background checks and complete necessary assessments.
While the official launch date for sports betting in North Carolina remains under wraps, there’s a wave of optimism about a potential rollout before March Madness, which tips off on March 19. The deadline for the market’s launch is set for June 14. Key to this rollout is the requirement for operators to establish partnerships with professional teams, leagues, and venues across North Carolina, ensuring a well-integrated and robust sports betting ecosystem.
North Carolina’s foray into mobile sports betting is more than just a legislative change; it’s a transformation of the sports and betting landscape, promising to bring new energy and opportunities to sports enthusiasts and bettors alike.
