Danish Twitch Streamer Penalized for Promoting Unauthorized Gambling Services

Denmark’s Spillemyndigheden, the national gambling regulator, has penalized a Danish Twitch streamer DKK 10,000 (€1,340) for promoting unlicensed gambling services on the platform. This marks the first instance of such disciplinary action being undertaken.

Following a detailed investigation earlier this year, Spillemyndigheden discovered the streamer’s involvement in showcasing an unauthorized gambling operator during live streams. This revelation led the regulator to report the streamer to the police, who concurred that the individual had violated Danish law.

In an official statement, Spillemyndigheden clarified, “Any gambling operator without a valid Danish licence is prohibited from marketing its services, be it in print, digital platforms, or social media.”

Additionally, earlier this week, the regulator announced its plans to intensify efforts against illicit gambling sites. It intends to double the issuance of blocking orders against such sites from once to twice annually. The recent directive mandates ISPs to restrict access to 49 unlawful gambling platforms, including stake.com.

On the financial front, the regulator indicated that Denmark’s gross gaming revenue for June was DKK513m (€68.8m). This represents a 1.1 per cent annual growth, but simultaneously, a decline of 13 per cent compared to the previous month.
