VGCCC’s Strict Action Against ALH Group

The Victorian Gambling and Casino Commission (VGCCC) has imposed a hefty fine on the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group (ALH). The fine totals AU$480,000 (approximately US$323,500) for operating electronic gaming machines (EGMs) outside of approved hours.

ALH: Victoria’s Largest EGM Operator

As the largest operator of EGMs in Victoria, ALH oversees 4690 machines across 76 venues. The VGCCC found that 15 EGMs at eight venues were active outside permitted hours, from February 15 to May 25.

Mandatory Shutdown Periods and Trading Hours

Gaming venues must shut down for four hours after every 20 hours of gaming. They must adhere to their nominated operational hours for EGMs.

Specific Venue Fines and Compliance Expectations

The First and Last Hotel, Croxton Park Hotel, Albion Charles Hotel, Berwick Inn Taverner, The Millers Inn Hotel, Village Green Hotel, and Elsternwick Hotel were fined AU$420,000 collectively. The Boundary Taverner received an additional fine of AU$60,000.

Annette Kimmitt’s Statement on Responsible Gambling

VGCCC CEO Annette Kimmitt emphasized the expectation for venues to provide gambling services responsibly. “Ensuring patrons take breaks and aren’t exposed to extended, continuous play is crucial,” she stated. The VGCCC will keep monitoring EGM operations to ensure compliance.

Previous Fines for ALH’s Your Play Non-Compliance

In August, ALH was fined AU$550,000 for operating 220 EGMs without the mandatory pre-commitment technology, YourPlay. This scheme helps players set limits on time and losses, promoting informed gambling decisions. It’s mandatory for all EGMs in Victoria.

Conclusion: VGCCC’s Commitment to Responsible Gambling

The VGCCC’s stringent actions against the ALH Group reinforce its commitment to responsible gambling in Victoria. By imposing significant fines, the commission underscores the importance of adherence to gaming regulations, ensuring a safe and responsible gambling environment for all patrons.
