Greece Enforces Ban on Streaming Platform Kick Due to Gambling-Related Content

Published

on

Kick.com, a streaming platform that garnered support from numerous pro-gambling advocates, has encountered a ban in Greece. The underlying reason for this action stems from the platform’s permissive approach to gambling, which has raised concerns within certain markets.

Kick arose following alterations to Twitch’s gambling content guidelines, the streaming service owned by Amazon. Founded by the creators of Stake.com, Kick aims to offer users an unrestricted space where they can freely express themselves and generate content.

Consequently, notable gambling streamers like Trainwreckstv (Tyler Faraz Niknam) have migrated to Kick, backing its endeavor to compete with Twitch. Trainwreckstv, previously a prominent Slots streamer on Twitch, vocally expressed his dissatisfaction with the platform’s revised policies.

Greece’s Discontent: Kick’s Lax Rules Encounter Resistance

Undoubtedly, Kick’s lenient policies and lucrative financial incentives are its main attractions. However, it is precisely these relaxed policies that resulted in its prohibition in Greece.

Recently, users in Greece encountered difficulties accessing Kick. Upon consulting the gaming blacklist of the Hellenic Gaming Commission, they discovered that the streaming site had been blacklisted. The commission justified the block by pointing to the Slots Gang section.

It is possible that other countries will take similar actions and block Kick, considering that Greece is not the only jurisdiction with stringent regulations regarding gambling content. However, it is too early to determine how Kick will navigate this intricate regulatory landscape.

Kick: Challenging the Throne – Surpassing Twitch’s Dominance

Nevertheless, Kick exhibits unwavering confidence in its ability to surpass Twitch. The founders have spared no expense in enticing top-tier gaming celebrities to the platform, effectively undermining their competitor.

Just a few days ago, Kick managed to attract Félix “xQc” Lengyel by offering him a staggering $100 million contract. Following this, Amouranth also announced her intention to join the Twitch competitor, although the specific details of her agreement with the company were not disclosed.

While Kick still has a considerable distance to go before it can dethrone Twitch, it is undoubtedly a rival that Amazon should not underestimate.

Twitch currently finds itself in competition with both Kick and YouTube Gaming, as both platforms are increasingly eager to claim a larger portion of the streaming market. While Twitch currently holds the dominant position, its competitors are growing stronger, posing a significant threat to the hegemony of the Amazon-owned platform.

Kick is not the first platform to challenge Twitch’s dominance. Whether its lenient policies will prove to be a blessing or a curse is yet to be determined.
