ONJN revokes the Romanian gambling license for Goldprest Impex
Goldprest Impex SRL, a slots operator, had its licence revoked by the Romanian gambling regulator (ONJN) because it did not pay the full licence fee. The Gambling Supervisory Committee conducted an investigation into various matters and discovered that Goldprest Impex SRL had outstanding fees.
Initially, the regulator suspected that Goldprest had only paid RON97,753 out of the required RON366,573, resulting in a debt of RON268,820 (equivalent to €55,000).
However, it was later discovered that the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) had recorded the complete amount as having been paid in two instalments in November 2022, but subsequently reduced it to RON97,753 after factoring in certain compensations.
Goldprest Impex rectified the payment difference and settled the debt by paying RON268,869 on March 20 and 22. However, the company submitted multiple rectification statements concerning Q4 2021, resulting in a reduction of the authorization fee that was lower than the owed amount.
These statements totaled RON444,348 across seven submissions. The Gambling Supervisory Committee declared these submissions to be illegitimate and canceled them.
The committee also found issues with the company’s defect tax and proceeded to cancel the operator’s license, demanding payment of the difference in the authorization fee.
Although Goldprest Impex is expected to appeal the decision, the license revocation takes effect immediately, and the company has 30 days to file the appeal.
