The National Lottery in Malta has entered into a 10-year agreement with IGT
On Wednesday, International Game Technology (IGT), a renowned gaming company, declared the signing of a significant contract for the Maltese lottery. IGT revealed specifics about the agreement, stating that its subsidiary, IGT Global Services Limited, entered into a fresh 10-year contract with National Lottery plc, the operator of the National Lottery in Malta and a subsidiary of IZI Group.
“IGT’s extensive experience with achieving significant sales growth for leading lotteries such as National Lottery plc made it an ideal partner for re-establishing Malta’s National Lottery,” said Johann Schembri, IZI Group’s Founder and CEO. “In addition to its sophisticated lottery product portfolio, IGT’s responsible approach to innovation and sustainable growth align with the Lottery’s vision of providing unique gaming entertainment experiences to players in a responsible and safe environment. We are very impressed with what IGT has been able to accomplish for us in such a short time and look forward to further enhancing the player experience over the next 10 years.”
Following an initial agreement that saw IGT’s technology replacing a competitor’s solution, the company’s central system went live with the National Lottery in Malta in July 2022.
In addition to the 10-year contract with the National Lottery, IGT has also confirmed a contract for printing instant tickets, which is anticipated to last until June 2032, and will assist the National Lottery in reintroducing instant tickets to the market for customers.
Collaborating with IGT has allowed the National Lottery to introduce an extra draw day for the popular LOTTO game in Malta, as well as launching two new draw games, Super 5 4-3-2-1 and Pick 3. These games are the first of their kind to be launched in the past decade, and with the recent deals, IGT is expected to have a crucial role in the retail growth of the National Lottery.

Jay Gendron, the Chief Operating Officer for Global Lottery at IGT, expressed the company’s excitement about working with the National Lottery in Malta, stating that they have successfully implemented their comprehensive lottery system and retail equipment in record time, despite the challenges they faced. Gendron further added that IGT is committed to promoting responsible sales growth by utilizing innovative technology and engaging instant ticket content to attract players.
IGT is a globally recognized leader in the lottery industry and provides technology to eight out of ten of the largest lotteries in the world, along with catering to sixteen of the top twenty-five lotteries worldwide.
