Ontario’s online gaming revenue surges by 20.8% in the fourth quarter

iGaming Ontario (iGO) has released its market performance report for the fourth quarter, revealing impressive growth in Ontario’s online gaming industry. Between January 1 and March 31, a total of $10.2 billion was wagered, marking a significant increase of 20.8% compared to $8.5 billion in Q3. In just one year since its launch on April 4, 2022, Ontario’s legal online gaming market has generated a staggering $26.5 billion in wagers.

In terms of revenue, the Canadian province recorded $415.5 million in Q4, showing a notable rise of 13.6% compared to Q3 and bringing the annual figure to $1.4 billion.

Ontario’s regulated online gaming market has attracted over 1.6 million active player accounts on websites operated by more than 40 operators with agreements with iGaming Ontario, making it a highly competitive market. In Q4, 1.01 million accounts were active, and players spent an average of $128.64 per month.

The report also highlighted the most popular sports for betting during the first year, with basketball leading the way at 28% of total betting wagers, followed by soccer at 15%, football at 14%, hockey at 9%, and baseball at 8%. The impressive growth and popularity of Ontario’s online gaming industry in just one year underscores the strong demand and potential for further expansion in the province.
