Caesars Virginia LLC’s application for the permanent casino has been approved by the Virginia Lottery Board, with the casino expected to open in late 2024.

Caesars Virginia has been granted an operating license by the Virginia Lottery Board, paving the way for the opening of a temporary casino in Danville on May 10. The board’s approval also allows the company to proceed with plans to open a permanent casino in late 2024.

Ferhan Hamid, the chairman of the Virginia Lottery Board, stressed the importance of responsible operation and regulation of casinos in the state, stating that it is a responsibility that the board takes seriously.

“The Virginia Lottery Board takes very seriously its statutory role overseeing casino gambling in the commonwealth. All Virginians, whether or not they use these facilities, need to be aware that they are operated and regulated responsibly.”

Caesars Virginia will become the third casino facility in Virginia, joining Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Temporary Bristol and Rivers Casino Portsmouth. The Virginia Lottery Board approved the casino licence for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Temporary Bristol in April 2022, and its temporary facility opened on the site of the former Bristol Mall on July 8 2022.

In November, the board approved the casino licence for Rivers Casino Portsmouth, which opened on January 23. Currently under construction, Caesars Virginia broke ground in August and is set to generate up to $38m in tax revenue for the city when the permanent venue opens in 2024.

The construction of Caesars Virginia is currently underway, with a total cost of $650 million. The property will feature a 500-room hotel and a casino gaming floor with over 1,300 slots, 85 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a WSOP poker room, and a Caesars Sportsbook. Additionally, the property will include a spa, pool area, fitness centre, meeting and convention space totalling 40,000 square feet, and an entertainment venue capable of accommodating up to 2,500 guests.

In January, Caesars Entertainment began the hiring process to fill hundreds of open positions, seeking “enthusiastic individuals” for roles including card dealers and other exciting positions.
