PAGCOR Exposes Fake Licensing Website: Don’t Fall for This Scam!
Key Points:
- PAGCOR warns against www.pagcorphilippines.com, a fake website offering fraudulent licenses.
- The site contains spelling errors and forged signatures, exposing it as a scam.
- PAGCOR is working with authorities to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has issued a stern warning to operators and residents about a fake website impersonating the agency. The fraudulent site, www.pagcorphilippines.com, claims to issue legitimate licenses and accreditations for the Philippine gaming market. However, PAGCOR has confirmed that the site is a scam, urging the public to avoid any transactions with it.
The fake website was reportedly set up over the weekend of February 22, 2024. It quickly raised red flags due to glaring spelling errors and forged signatures on the supposed licenses. PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “We urge the public not to download anything or transact through this fake website. It is not from PAGCOR, and all its contents are spurious.”
PAGCOR has already reported the incident to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The agency is also collaborating with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those behind the scam. Tengco added, “We shall go after them with the full force and extent of the law. This is clearly intended to deceive people, especially those seeking licenses to operate.”
This warning comes as PAGCOR continues its fight against illegal online activities in the Philippines. The agency has been particularly vigilant in addressing illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs). In December 2023, PAGCOR terminated one of the largest POGO operators, marking a significant victory in its ongoing battle against illegal gaming.
Despite these challenges, PAGCOR has achieved remarkable success in recent months. The agency reported a 41% year-on-year revenue increase, reaching PHP112 billion (US$1.94 billion) in 2024. Additionally, PAGCOR celebrated the opening of a new corporate building in partnership with San Miguel Corporation earlier this month. The agency also reaffirmed its support for the Special Class BPO sector, highlighting its commitment to fostering legitimate business opportunities in the Philippines.
To avoid falling victim to similar scams, PAGCOR advises operators and individuals to verify the authenticity of any website claiming to represent the agency. Always cross-check information with PAGCOR’s official channels and report suspicious activities immediately.
PAGCOR’s swift action against the fake licensing website underscores its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Philippine gaming industry. By staying vigilant and verifying information through official channels, operators and individuals can avoid falling prey to online scams. As PAGCOR continues to crack down on illegal activities, its efforts ensure a safer and more transparent gaming environment for all.
