A Multifaceted Leader for a Crucial Mission
Weiss’s promotion is a testament to his extensive background and notable achievements in health policy and communications. Prior to joining GamCare in 2022, he played a crucial role during the Covid-19 pandemic as the head of Policy and Public Affairs for the UK’s largest hospital speciality, anaesthesia. His tenure of over seven years at the UK Faculty of Public Health, spanning various policy and public affairs roles, has equipped him with invaluable expertise in tackling public health challenges.
Strategic Vision for a Safer Future
In his tenure with GamCare, Weiss has significantly contributed to the charity’s external engagement and communications strategies. His new responsibilities will include closer collaboration with Executive Chair Margot Daly to provide leadership and strategic direction, aiming to make gambling safer across the UK.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Weiss stated, “I am honored to take on the role of Deputy CEO at such a pivotal time. The opportunity to contribute more significantly to GamCare’s mission, especially during this transitional period in gambling support, is both exciting and humbling.”
A Unified Effort Against Gambling Harm
Executive Chair Margot Daly lauded Weiss’s promotion, highlighting his deep understanding of GamCare’s impact and his commitment to the charity’s mission. “Mark’s appointment as Deputy CEO is a strategic step towards enhancing our leadership team’s capacity to navigate the evolving landscape of gambling harm prevention. His proven track record and collaborative approach will undoubtedly drive GamCare’s objectives forward,” Daly commented.
As the charity moves into this new chapter under Weiss’s deputy leadership, GamCare continues to report significant engagement with its National Gambling Helpline, with a record-breaking 52,370 calls and online chats in 2023, marking a 24% increase from the previous year. Weiss’s leadership is set to play a crucial role in further advancing GamCare’s commitment to supporting individuals affected by gambling-related harm and preventing further harm from emerging.
