NOGA provides insights into the growth of online gaming in the Netherlands
Newly released data from the Netherlands Online Gambling Association (NOGA) reveals the expanding Dutch igaming market.
The latest edition of the Online Gaming Barometer highlights a significant increase in gambling participation, with 14 percent of the Netherlands’ population having engaged in gambling activities over the past 12 months. This figure marks a notable rise from 11 percent recorded in the previous year.
Conducted by market researcher IPSOS among 2,803 individuals, a survey revealed significant trends in the Dutch gambling landscape. The study found that the proportion of young adult players had increased from 21 percent to 30 percent, while the percentage of young people displaying signs of problem gambling rose from 8 percent to 14 percent.
In terms of demographics, 69 percent of individuals who had engaged in gambling activities within the previous year were men, and 36 percent were young adults. When it came to the preferred platform for gambling, 81 percent of respondents favored smartphones, with 85 percent utilizing websites compared to 51 percent using apps.
The survey also indicated a decline in the frequency of gambling advertising exposure. Only 15 percent reported seeing gambling ads “very often,” down from 25 percent the previous year. This decrease was observed across all channels, including a decline from 81 percent to 77 percent in individuals who encountered TV ads. Notably, starting from July 1, the Netherlands plans to implement a ban on untargeted gambling advertising.
