BCLC enhances identification protocols at casinos in British Columbia
BCLC reinforces identification requirements at BC casinos to assist participants of the Game Break self-exclusion program in British Columbia.
The enhancements will mandate the presentation of government-issued photo identification for access to the facilities, applicable to all individuals.
Security personnel will scan identification documents, which will be automatically cross-referenced with a database of individuals prohibited from entering gaming establishments, including participants of the Game Break program. For individuals authorized to access the casino, the system will not retain any personal data.
This new requirement aligns with BCLC’s objective of fostering the healthiest players globally, achieved through evidence-based player health programs designed to yield positive outcomes.
Thorough third-party evaluations of the self-exclusion program provided by BCLC have shown that participants strongly believe that identity checks at gaming establishments will effectively support their decision by preventing unauthorized entry.
The specific implementation date will be announced in the coming weeks. Furthermore, residents of British Columbia can avail themselves of free prevention, treatment, and support services through Gambling Support BC.
Players are advised that identification may be required even prior to formal implementation to verify age and/or identity, as identification is also screened for procedures like claiming jackpot prizes.
In April 2023, Light & Wonder entered into a distribution agreement to provide ReelPlay games to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). Moreover, the BCLC was acknowledged by the Government last year for its commendable work in Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DI&B). The BCLC was honored as a “5-Star Diversity & Inclusion Employer” on the Human Resources Director Canada website, recognizing the company’s exceptional efforts in establishing and maintaining an inclusive working environment.
