Charities Call on UK Government to Lift Lottery Restrictions

A number of charities in the UK have urged the government to ease the restrictions on charity lotteries, enabling them to generate more funds. The People’s Postcode Lottery has joined the chorus, advocating for reforms to eliminate what they deem as “pointless and outdated” limitations.

Numerous charities are advocating for the removal of the £50 million limit on lottery sales, as it poses a significant challenge to their fundraising efforts. The Royal Voluntary Service anticipates a potential loss of £5.3 million over the next five years due to this restriction.

Barnardo’s faces a potential loss of up to £5.1 million, while Maggie’s estimates a potential loss of £4.3 million. Dame Laura Lee DBE, the chief executive of Maggie’s, highlights the transformative impact that funding from People’s Postcode Lottery players has had on their ability to expand their network of cancer support centers and reach a greater number of individuals affected by cancer, including their families and friends.
